A reflection from UnMasked: Who Are You?
A mask does not always begin with a desire to deceive. Sometimes it begins with a need to survive. You learn to smile through disappointment, stay strong for everybody else, and keep moving when you need rest. Eventually, the image you present can become easier to recognize than the person beneath it.
In UnMasked: Who Are You?, I invite you to look beneath that image. Being seen by people does not always mean you feel known. You can fulfill your responsibilities while quietly losing touch with what is happening in your heart.
The first step is honesty. You do not have to solve every problem today. Begin by acknowledging what you have been avoiding and inviting God into that place.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.”
Psalm 139:23 KJV
Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself: What am I hiding behind my smile? What have I been calling strength that is really exhaustion? What do I need to bring before God honestly?
Write down one honest answer. Then pray about it without trying to make it sound better. Freedom begins with a willingness to be known. God already sees beneath the surface. You can trust Him with the person you have been protecting.
When the mask comes off, who are you?
